Prelab Questions: 1. I think the two coffee filters would fall faster because the weight is greater and air resistance would have less of an effect.2. I think the relationship between the number of filters and terminal velocity would be linear.
Procedure:
1. Set up motion detector on ceiling
2. Drop coffee filter .5m from the detector and collect data
3. Check for smooth graph which is a good representation of the fall
4. Use linear fit on the constant part of the graph to find the slope and record it
5. Repeat for 2-5 coffee filters
:
1. See graphs above
2. (Terminal Velocity)² is more consistent with the data collected and is closer to a straight line that goes through the origin.
3. (cv)² fits the collected data better because it again is closer to a straight line that goes through the origin.
4. The fall time decreases as the weight/ number of coffee filters increases. This is because a greater mass, results in a faster velocity overall, thus shortening the fall time.
